DescriptionThis image of a cultivated landscape seen through a frieze of unruly trees and vegetation was drawn when Blackshaw was around 18 years of age. The ivy clad trees dominate the view but a gate in a garden wall with low buildings behind can be seen in the middle distance. The spikey ink lines used to delineate the wintry branches create an immersive, intimate landscape. It is a good example of Blackshaw's early work, illustrating his skill as a draughtsman and his idiosyncratic approach to landscape.ProvenancePurchased, Sotheby's, London, Irish Sale, 21 October 2015, lot 41Exhibition HistoryNew Perspectives.
