Paul Doran

Paul Doran is a painter living and working in the south-east of Ireland. Doran attended the National College of Art and Design, graduating with a BA in Fine Art Painting in 1997 and an MFA in Painting in 2001. Doran is concerned with the materiality of paint and the processes of painting. This interest in material over subject is evident in his work, which comprises abstract, colourful, and mostly small-scale paintings in which texture, brushwork, and pattern-making come to the fore. Doran has exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally and his work is held in public collections including the Hugh Lane Gallery and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. In 2005 Doran won the AIB Prize – an award for artists of outstanding promise.
