Edmund Joseph Sullivan1869-1933

Born in Putney, London, Sullivan initially worked as an illustrator for the London journal The Graphic and from 1893, Pall Mall Magazine. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Watercolour Society, Fine Art Society, New English Art Club, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Hibernian Academy. He illustrated books by many authors, including: Tennyson, Marryat and Gilbert White. He wrote 'The Art of Illustration', published in 1921, ' Line, An Art Study' 1922, and 'Still-Life and Flowers', 1929. He was Master of the Art Workers' Guild, 1931. Examples of his work are in the V&A Museum, National Portrait Gallery, Bradford Museum and Art Gallery and the British Museum.
