Carmel Benson

Carmel Benson was born in Wexford. She graduated from University College Dublin and from Dún Laoghaire College of Art and Design. She joined Graphic Studio Dublin where from 1989 - 1998 she was a director. She developed and exhibited work in various print media while teaching at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology from 1987-1999. She gave up teaching to concentrate on her art. She has exhibited widely in Ireland, the UK, France, Spain and the USA among other countries. Combining figurative and abstract elements, her work is drawn from themes of childhood, nature and journeying. Her work is included in many public and private collections including: the Irish Contemporary Art Society, Bank of Ireland, AIB and the Arts Councils of Ireland.
