Stuart Pearson Wright is best known for his keenly observed figurative portraits. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art (1995-99), where he received a B.A. in Fine Art. He won the BP Portrait Award in 2001 for his painting of six presidents of the British Academy. In 2003 he painted the controversial naked portrait of Prince Philip (Royal Society of Arts). His paintings of John Hurt, J.K. Rowling, Adam Cooper and Mike Leigh can be found in the National Portrait Collection, along with 10 drawings of actors including Alan Rickman, Jeremy Irons, Geoffrey Palmer and Timothy Spall. These drawings were displayed in a 2006 exhibition at the NPG entitled: 'Most People are Other People' (2006). Stuart Pearson Wright won the Garrick/Milne Prize in 2005 for his striking, almost surreal oil portrait of Sir Michael Gambon, who is shown seated in his dressing room (The Garrick Club Collections). The artist has won numerous other awards and has exhibited extensively.
