Joe Caslin
Born in Roscommon, Joe Caslin is a street artist, illustrator, art teacher and activist. In 2012, he completed an MFA in illustration, receiving a distinction at the Edinburgh College of Art – University of Edinburgh. Caslin has worked as a secondary school art teacher for the past ten years and is currently Head of Department at Tullamore College, Co. Offaly. Best known for his detailed drawings that translate into towering murals, his highly accessible work highlights social issues that impact on contemporary Irish society such as drug addiction, mental wellbeing, suicide, direct provision, emigration, disenfranchisement and apathy. Caslin's urban artwork during the 2015 marriage equality campaign directly referenced the Gallery’s celebrated work by F.W. Burton The Meeting on the Turret Stairs, and, for many, was seen as the defining image of the campaign.
