John Comerford
Best known as a painter of miniatures, John Comerford was born in Kilkenny. As a young man, he reputedly copied paintings Marquis of Ormonde’s collection at Kilkenny Castle. He was a student at the Dublin Society’s Drawing Schools. He exhibited in London at the Royal Academy in 1804 and 1809. He developed a reputation as a miniature-painter in Dublin, and had a lucrative practice. He died at his home in Blessington Street in Dublin of apoplexy on the 25th of January 1832.
