DescriptionThis drawing relates to a battle scene Van der Meulen painted for King Louis XIV of France, now in the Louvre, Paris. Only a section of that composition is seen here and the complete drawing may have extended over several sheets. The artist produced a series of pictures commemorating the King's victories, some of which were models for Gobelins tapestries. The artist travelled with the King on a number of his military campaigns, making sketches of locations and events later used in his paintings.
