Label TextLike his father George Barret the Elder, Barret was a landscape artist. Working in oils and watercolours, he painted picturesque views of the southern English countryside. Many of Barret’s scenes feature sunrises and sunsets. In this early self-portrait, he sits beside an easel. On it rests a small canvas of a landscape. Barret holds a paintbrush in his right hand, while in his left is a mahl stick - a prop used to support the working hand.
