DescriptionFollowing the success of Dublin's great exhibition of 1853 it was decided to erect a permanent exhibition palace and winter garden for public recreation. A public competition was held and the first stone was laid in 1863. The building was opened by Queen Victoria in 1865. Around 1908 the building became part of University College Dublin's campus.
