DescriptionThis sensitive self-portrait highlights Burton’s attention to detail and skilled draughtsmanship. Catching a likeness is the paramount aim of this drawing, with emphasis placed on the facial features while cursory lines indicate the hair and clothing. Burton was a private person. Yet, viewing this self-portrait together with selected sketches, helps reveal who he was as a character and as an artist.
