DescriptionThis is one of eight plates after Rubens's designs for his series of tapestries depicting the life of Achilles Baron engraved the prints after a set of oil sketches made by Rubens around 1630. This plate is after an oil sketch now in the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota inv.no.221. In this print Achilles is being instructed by Chiron the centaur, shown holding a whip and carrying Achilles on his back. Two hunting dogs can be seen on the left and a lyre hangs in a tree with Mount Pelion is visible in the background.InscriptionLettered under image with production details and title in Latin and English, followed by six lines of Latin and English verses in two columns: P.P.
