Description‘The Fifty’ comprises 50 photographic prints after drawings Sean Scully made using his iPhone. Colourful and full of energy, they are designed to be displayed in any order. The digital print series, (produced in a limited edition of 21), was donated by the artist. These vivid, abstract images were created by moving a finger over a smartphone screen. Like David Hockney’s celebrated i-Pad drawings, they illustrate the creative potential of today’s ubiquitous personal technology. The series was shown in an exhibition called ‘Square’, in Dublin’s Kerlin Gallery in 2022. The square, a key motif for modernist artists since Malevich’s ‘Black Square’ of 1915, has provided Scully with inspiration from early in his career. These playful prints give a window into the artist’s enthusiasm for exploring new possibilities within a familiar framework.ProvenanceDonated through the Kerlin Gallery; Presented, 2022Exhibition HistorySquare, Kerlin Gallery, Dublin, May 14 - June 25 2022
