DescriptionThis large-scale, immersive carborundum print is dramatic is inspired by the infamous North West Passage in the Arctic. Despite the fact that this is not a topographical depiction, the dark lines of purple, grey and blue evoke a huge, barren landscape. A patch of vivid yellow, which one could imagine is a beach, draws the eye into the centre of the composition. That, and a line of white above the central outcrop, open out the scene. This complex print was created in 2021 in collaboration with a master-printer at Stoney Road Press in Dublin. It is informed by Rae’s many sketchbooks and small-scale paintings that she worked on during her Arctic voyages. She made quick sketches and take photographs on deck, then worked up paintings back in her cabin. This richly textured print represents the distillation of ideas and memories into colours and shapes to create a vivid and evocative whole.ProvenancePurchased, 2022
