DescriptionThis is likely to be a sample panel created by Child to demonstrate his proficiency in the Arts and
Crafts style of his mentor, Christopher Whall.
Whall’s influence is apparent in the rhythmic
lead lines and pearlescent glass, interspersed with
bright jewel-like colours. The nature-inspired
framework of leafy branches is a recurrent motif
in Child’s oeuvre. Whall would instruct his
students to make observational sketches of oak
leaves, ivy and honeysuckle to create organic yet
symmetrical canopies
