DescriptionA resident of John Minihan’s hometown, Athy, County Kildare, Katy Tyrell died in 1977. Minihan photographed her wake for two nights and three days. Dress in the Legion of Mary burial shroud, she lays peacefully in her bed with her hands folded around her rosary beads. Following the wake, Minihan photographed the funeral and burial of Mrs. Tyrrell. Like many of his Athy pictures, Minihan’s photographs of the wake, funeral and burial of Katy Tyrrell are profound and moving.
