DescriptionIn 2009, Amelia Stein published RHA Portraits 2009, a series of contemplations on the singularity of the artistic process, one that is equal parts action and reflection. The series underlines Stein’s unique ability to identify the metaphorical potential of objects and her skill in drawing out the character of an individual by expanding the definition of portraiture. Stein’s strategy when approaching this project was to reveal the personality of the artists through facial portraits, images of the artist’s tools, and depictions of the artist’s hands. Here, she expands on this interest in her 2010 portrait of German-Irish sculptor Imogen Stuart, which depicts the artist’s hands holding a sculpting tool.
