DescriptionThis work featured in the Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize Exhibition 2019. The artist had been listening to the music of Talk Talk while painting this self-portrait, and was alarmed to hear of the death of the band's lead singer Mark Hollis before completing the picture. He noticed, having heard the news, that his expression had changed and sought to capture this change in the final portrait.
