DescriptionSinéad O’Connor (1966-2023) rose to fame with her debut album The Lion and the Cobra (1987), and built on this success with the global hit Nothing Compares 2 U (1990). She released several albums, some notably experimental, which she co-produced, and collaborated with many other prominent artists. Passionate and outspoken on personal and social issues, she challenged orthodoxy and attracted media attention throughout her life. On converting to Islam in 2018, she changed her name to Shuhada’ Sadaqat, but continued to record and perform under her original name. Jane Bown, who worked mainly in black and white, took this photograph backstage during a concert rehearsal.
