DescriptionThese prints formed part of the exhibition ‘Good Morning Mister Turner’, which comprised a suite of prints, five drawings and an artist’s book shown in the NGI Print Gallery in January 2018. These works on paper were created specially to hang alongside the Gallery’s annual exhibition of J.M.W. Turner’s watercolours. Niall Naessens has long been interested in Turner’s work and sees this interaction as a conversation across the centuries. The art of both Turner and Naessens combines the ordinary and the extraordinary and the presence of the human figure is a feature of both. The prints and drawings which were included in the exhibition illustrate how Naessens’s work has developed and changed over the years, yet feature many of the characteristic aspects of his earlier work including his fascination with densely overlapping lines.
