DescriptionThis simply drawn, honest self-portrait produced when the artist was aged sixty, is a good example of the intensely introspective images of self which Kollwitz created throughout her career. Her care-worn face betrays the suffering she herself experienced and represents her compassion for humanity, and her concern for the suffering of poor women and children. This lithograph, like much of Kollwitz’s print output, was produced in relatively large numbers but not editioned.
