DescriptionDuring World War I Longstaff served in Egypt in the Australian Imperial Force. He was wounded in 1917 but returned to active service as a war artist. In the 1920s he earned a reputation for his depictions of war memorials. These prints depict the Cenotaph in London erected in 1920 to commemorate those who died in World War I. Plate-tone is used skilfully to create night and day scenes from the same etched plate.Inscriptionlower left (in pencil): 21/100 B
