DescriptionThis copperplate was made for the NGI exhibition 'Revelation' in 2008. It is typical of Bardon's work, being boldly drawn and featuring flowers inspired by Renaissance painting. The lilies refer to the Annunciation, one of the great revelations of the New Testament. Traditionally, Mary's purity is symbolised by the presence of white lilies, usually shown in the angel Gabriel's hand or in a nearby vase. The print, although brightly coloured, is printed using just this single plate. To create the print, the artist carefully wipes up to six colours onto the plate and prints in one go. The gold leaf is added later.
