DescriptionClaude is renowned for his idealised landscapes and use of classical mythology. This subject is taken from Ovid’s narrative poem 'The Metamorphoses'. It depicts the abduction of Europa by Jupiter who appears as a white bull. Claude made the majority of his prints before he became famous in the 1640s. He published them in order to better disseminate his work and to enhance his reputation.
