DescriptionPennell contributed more to the art of illustration than any other early 20th century American artist. During his career he produced more than 900 etchings and mezzotints and over 600 lithographs. This highly atmospheric mezzotint shows the Statue of Liberty with the Manhatten skyline in the distance. It is a good example of a modern mezzotint, with dramatic chiaroscuro light effects. This unlettered proof was issued by the artist in 1908.InscriptionUnlettered Proof
