DescriptionThis two colour linocut displays Dillon’s interest in abstraction and hard-edged international modernism. Brought up in Belfast, Dillon was a self-taught artist who began his working life as a house painter. He constantly sought to extend his approach, and delighted in improvising with unusual materials and diverse techniques. He experimented with printmaking at various stages of his career, initially creating linocuts, woodcuts and monotypes. Towards the end of his life he took up etching at Graphic Studio, Dublin, along with George Campbell (1917-1979) and Arthur Armstrong (1924-1996).ProvenanceArthur Armstrong; De Veres, Dublin, 1998, Arthur Armstrongs Studio Sale; purchased, Whyte's Auctioneers, Dublin, 27 May 2006, lot 264
