DescriptionThis study relates to Turner's first visit to Europe in 1802. During his three month trip he filled nine sketchbooks of varying sizes with pencil and wash sketches of the dramatic scenery. The dramatic natural feature is well known as the setting for a famous fictional event. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle used the waterfall as the backdrop to the violent death of his hero Sherlock Holmes.Exhibition HistoryTurner in January | Ireland's Vaughan Bequest, National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, 01 January 2025 - 31 January 2025
