DescriptionLike the 'Mewstone', this jewel-like image was engraved for the print series Picturesque Views of the Southern Coast of England. It appeared in print in 1824. The quarrying and burning of lime was a common practice on the Devon coast. Turner shows limestone being loaded onto patient donkeys to be transported to the kilns, visible lower down on the beach.
