DescriptionIn June 1801 Turner set off on a sketching tour of the north of England and Scotland. It was at this point in his career that he began to break away from the traditional, precise mode of topographical drawing in favour of a freer, more expressive style. The beginning of turner's life-long interest in capturing transient weather effects is visible in this sheet.
