DescriptionIn 1797 turner visited Norbury Park, the seat of William Lock (1732-1810), collector and patron of the arts. This dramatic image illustrates Turner's confidence in depicting nature within the conventions of the period. The foliage is rendered with an almost feathery lightness of touch. The immensity of the trees is emphasised by the inclusion of two tiny figures, visible to the right of the main tree.Inscriptionon verso (on mount): Norbury Park. T. 1801.
