Label TextO’Flaherty sat for this portrait sculpture when he was eighty-seven years old. The manner in which the bust was initially modelled in clay is demonstrated by the heavily textured finish of the bronze. The sculptor, an Irish citizen, attended the Manchester Regional College of Art. He lived and worked in New Zealand for three decades before returning to England. In recent years he has spent considerable time in China, where his work is particularly well-regarded.
