Label TextA cat tries to steal birds lying on a table. Among them are a jay, a bullfinch, a starling, a great tit and two partridges. The birds are placed against a Chinese porcelain cup and saucers. On the grey back wall hangs another bird. Luyckx was an Antwerp painter of flower, fruit, fish and hunting still lifes, as well as garland paintings. As is the case with the remainder of his hunting still lifes, the present painting reveals the strong influence of Frans Synders, whose Banquet Piece is also on display in this room.
