DescriptionDe Wint was an astute businessman and by 1827 he was charging a guinea an hour for lessons, while his drawings sold for between five and fifty guineas. He was extremely popular and successful as a teacher and many younger artists imitated his style. He favoured simple country landscapes, which he painted with verve, using rich tones of colour. His method, clearly shown in these drawings, was to build up trees and other forms with layers of wash.
