DescriptionThis sheet includes two depictions of a male nude, seen from front and back. The hips are twisted in the classical controposto pose taken from antique sculpture. Similar sheets in other collections, including the British Museum, show that Luini regularly made an abundance of drawings on a single sheet, indicative of his highly-charged creative powers. The pen marks are rapid and agitated and they tend to suggest rather than accurately describe the anatomical features of his subjects.
