DescriptionSaftleven was a painter, etcher and publisher. Born in Rotterdam, he worked in Utrecht from 1632. The verso or back of this drawing bears an inscription which translates roughly as: this view is outside the gate of the white nuns, 1674, called the Green Orchard. The Wittevrouwenpoort, one of the four city gates, was demolished in 1858.
