DescriptionThis drawing is a copy after a section of Mantegna's painting 'The Triumph of Julius Caesar', now at Hampton Court, London. The effects of light and shade on forms are well realised, especially evident in the armour. In this densely packed triumphal procession, great attention is paid to the background details that Mantegna himself left vague in his preliminary drawings. This suggests that this drawing was made with an engraver in mind.
