DescriptionThis photograph by Scottish photographer David Williams, belongs to a series titled ‘Stillness and Occurrence’. The series consists of fifteen seascapes undertaken over a five year period. Each work, including this image, was taken from a specific vantage point on a small stretch of beach at Portobello, on the outskirts of Edinburgh. Williams reflected on this project saying: “The images were shot on medium format film using long exposures on sunny days in conditions of mid haar [North Sea fog] and low wind. The work finds its roots in my abiding interest in non-duality and the reconciliation/integration of apparent opposites.” This image is part of a portfolio of 30 photographs published by Zelda Cheatle in 2003 to celebrate 15 years of exhibitions in her London gallery. The artists included in this collection reflect Cheatle’s aim to highlight the work of important twentieth century photographers while at the same time exhibiting and supporting emerging artists. The photographs range from digital prints to silver gelatin prints and cyanotypes.
