DescriptionBorn in 1961, Calum Colvin is a Scottish artist whose work combines photography, painting and installation. Colvin often creates a large-scale studio ‘stage-set’ of everyday objects, furniture and bric-a-brac, which he carefully poses and lights theatrically. Birds frequently appear in his work. This photograph is part of a wider series titled ‘Ornithology’ in which birds are the central motif. Colvin created this photograph using a 10 x 8 inch De Vere camera and colour transparency film. This image is part of a portfolio of 30 photographs published by Zelda Cheatle in 2003 to celebrate 15 years of exhibitions in her London gallery. The artists included in this collection reflect Cheatle’s aim to highlight the work of important twentieth century photographers while at the same time exhibiting and supporting emerging artists. The photographs range from digital prints to silver gelatin prints and cyanotypes.
