DescriptionThis carborundum print, one of a series of 8 made between 2012 and 2013, is a superb example of the artist’s ability to capture the energy and power of the sea. Since his first residency at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in 1996, Teskey has based much of his work on the wild landscape of North Mayo. His prints and paintings are based on watercolour sketches and photographs that he makes on the shoreline, closely observing the changing seacapes and the way the waves interact with the rocks. In a recent RTE interview he described how he tackles the landcape ‘chasing it, trying to pin it down’, attempting to define the ethereal. He returns repeatedly to Downpatrick Head where the limestone strata is contstantly battered and reformed by the Atlantic sea. Powerful and full of energy, this print illustrates how Teskey uses the characteristic qualities of carborundum, to create richly textured and evocative images of the Irish coastline.ProvenanceOn offer as a gift by Stoney Road Press. Printed by the Press as an edition of 75 in 2013; Presented, Stoney Road Press, 2022
