DescriptionThis hard-bound sketchbook contains over 50 drawings, mainly of the landscape around Woodstock House, in the Nore valley near Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny. The album contains signed and dated drawings by Hannah Tighe (1800-1872). The sketchbook also contains views of Rossana, another Tighe family residence near Ashford in Wicklow as well as drawings made during visits to Lismore Castle, Llangollen in North Wales and Shrewsbury, Shropshire. Most of the drawings have handwritten titles and are dated 1814 and 1815. The drawings are that of a talented young woman who had learned the conventions of landscape drawing. Her sketches are close, in terms of style and technique, to those done by Maria Spilsbury Taylor, one of whose sketchbooks in the collection (NGI 19433), contains views of some of the same locations. Spilsbury Taylor is known to have accompanied the Tighe family on visits in Ireland
