DescriptionIn this Old Testament scene, a strong faith saves the three protagonists from a fiery furnace. The
bold simplicity and spiritual sincerity of Hone’s
stained glass suggests the influence of French
painter Georges Rouault’s religious expressionism.
Hone favoured harmonious colour, expressive
brushwork and clarity of form, over the intricate
detailing of the Arts and Crafts aesthetic. Her
inventive designs are a powerful synthesis of
modernist painting, medieval stained glass and
early Irish monastic sculpture.
