DescriptionIn 1974, Caroline Tisdall captured German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys’s trip to Ireland. Her series of striking black and white photographs documented locations he visited including the Giant’s Causeway, Newgrange, Sandycove, and Cork City. This photograph presents the somewhat fictional ‘character’ of Joseph Beuys created through carefully-crafted anecdotes and his trademark uniform of a felt hat, fishing jacket and jeans. Beuys’s practice blurred the lines between living and performance art. He famously believed that life itself should be an artwork.(Katie Buckley, Curatorial Fellow - Prints and Drawings, An Artist's Presence, 2025, Print Gallery)
