DescriptionThis etching which depicts the Spanish hill-town of Gerona, is Gethin’s last plate. It was one of fifty impressions published by London print dealers Colnaghi in June 1914. Gethin was pleased with the print writing to Harold Wright: "I believe Rembrandt would not have been ashamed of that, and I shall do something one day which he really would have liked". The plate is skilfully etched, and compares well with the work of the influential French etcher Charles Meryon, having the same imposing sense of presence and massiveness.
