DescriptionFinnish photographer Pentti Sammallahti visited Ireland in 1978 and travelled to various parts of the country including Mayo, Kerry and Cork. A place of real significance for Sammallahti, and many other photographers visiting Ireland in the 1970s and 80s was Croagh Patrick where he photographed the mountain and captured the sentiment and struggle of those of scaling it. In addition to his interest in human emotion, as a wanderer and master craftsman, Sammallahti has held a long interest in depicting the relationship between people and animals and people and the landscape that he discovers during his travels. His work has a supernatural sense of a moment suspended in time, with the sensitivity and beauty of the world displayed through its animalistic existence.
