DescriptionIn May 1857, increased tension between British officers and Indian foot soldiers of the East India Company’s Bengal Army culminated in open rebellion and the capture of Delhi by the mutineers. This print depicts the recapture of the city by British forces in September 1857. It is thought that Morgan, a correspondent for the Illustrated London News, based this dramatic scene on first-hand accounts of the battle.
