DescriptionThis lithograph, made after Nicholson’s hand-coloured woodcut, is from the series entitled 'Twelve Portraits' which depicted important contemporary figures such as Queen Victoria, Rudyard Kipling, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, and Sarah Bernhardt. Nicholson and his brother-in-law James Pryde, working under the pseudonym J & W Beggarstaff Brothers, also made a number of lithographic posters for Irving’s theatrical productions.InscriptionUpper left: William Nicholson.
