DescriptionThese relatively informal, anonymous portraits focus on the heads of the sitters. There is little extraneous detail, and much is made of the gaze of the sitter which, in most cases, meets the artist's or viewer's gaze in a frank manner. Although other graphite sketches by Frye are unknown, the style has similarities with some of his mezzotints.
