Description‘A Rake’s Progress’ was etched and engraved from a series of eight paintings completed in 1734. Like ‘A Harlot’s Progress’ it is a moral tale. This last print shows how Tom Rakewell’s excesses have driven him mad. He is shown half-naked in Bethlem Hospital forthe insane being comforted by his stalwart mistress Sarah Young.
