Descriptionhe Flemish-born painter and engraver Lefebvre spent his career in Venice producing religious and history paintings and prints. He is best known for his prints after paintings by Titan, Tintoretto and Veronese. The inscription 'Lefebre del. et sculp.' indicates that Lefebre both drew and engraved this print himself. He would make a careful scaled down drawing of the painting and then engrave the plate using the drawing as a guide. Titan's oil painting of 1526/30 has since been destroyed. Such engravings are important in that they often provide the only record of important works in an artist's oeuvre.
