DescriptionSarah Purser first studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art. She continued her training at the famous Académie Julian in Paris from 1878-79, which at the time had a separate studio for women students. Elected an Honorary Academician by the RHA in 1891, then exclusively male in membership, she later became its first woman full member. Purser was an instrumental figure in the founding of Dublin’s Municipal Gallery of Modern Art.
